There’s an early repair to the lid of the hemlock jar, and a chip to the lid of the leeches jar (please see pics)
A highly decorative and unusual pair of Victorian apothecary jars, each of twin-handled urn form and complete with domed lids, clearly titled Hemlock and Leeches.
Finished in a rich burgundy and cream palette with gilt embellishment, the jars display ornate scrollwork, stylised foliage, and shaped cartouches bearing their original apothecary labels.
The bodies are elegantly proportioned with fluted necks, pedestal bases, and pierced lids—features associated with 19th century pharmacy storage vessels.
Both visually striking and evocative of historical medical practice, this pair offers strong display appeal, particularly within cabinets of curiosities, period interiors, or collections focused on scientific and medical antiques.
