Description

An original mid-20th century Winsor & Newton artist’s paint box, dating approximately between the 1930s and 1950s.

Housed within a fitted wooden case, the set retains a selection of period artist’s materials, reflecting the practical layout and portability expected of professional and amateur painters of the time.

The interior is lined and compartmentalised, containing various small glass bottles of pigments and mediums, along with additional artist supplies.

The lid retains its original booklet, Notes on Colour Mixing by Hesketh Hubbard, published by Winsor & Newton, offering insight into the teaching and techniques of colour theory during the period.

Winsor & Newton, established in 1832, is one of Britain’s most respected art material manufacturers, and sets such as this were widely used by artists working both in studio and plein air.

The box itself demonstrates a functional, travel-ready design with carry handle and secure clasp.

A strong example of a working artist’s kit, offering both decorative and historical appeal.
