A classic vintage ceramic phrenology head, after the well-known designs attributed to L.N. Fowler, featuring a detailed map of cranial “faculties” across the surface.

The bust is finished in a crackle glaze, with clearly defined sectional markings and printed labels identifying various traits such as intellect, emotion, and personality characteristics.

Phrenology, a now-obsolete 19th-century practice, sought to link the shape of the skull with mental abilities and character.

Despite its scientific discreditation, phrenology heads remain highly collectible as decorative and historical objects, often used in teaching, display, or as conversation pieces.

The base is inscribed “Phrenology by L.N. Fowler,” with additional explanatory text to the reverse, reinforcing its connection to traditional educational models of the period.
