A striking pair of antique brass andirons, each surmounted by a finely cast seated lion with stylised mane and expressive facial detail.
Raised on shaped plinths and supported by scrolling cabriole legs, the design reflects classical influences often seen in Georgian and Victorian fireplace furnishings.
Each andiron is fitted with an iron rear support bar (firedog), allowing practical use within an open hearth while also serving as highly decorative statement pieces.
The warm aged tone of the brass enhances the sculptural quality of the lions, giving them a commanding presence when placed either side of a fireplace.
Pieces of this scale and form were traditionally used to support burning logs while simultaneously acting as ornamental focal points within the home.
