Description
A charming 1960s Senpo wind-up musical doll, seated upon a rotating plastic base and accompanied by the classic tune “Fly Me To The Moon.”
This piece features a stylised figure with a large painted face, glass eyes, and finely rooted auburn hair, dressed in period fabric clothing with lace detailing and ribbon accents.
The doll is posed seated, holding a small faux fur companion, adding to its whimsical mid-century appeal.
The mechanism is housed within the moulded plastic base, stamped “Senpo Tokyo Japan,” and operates via a traditional wind-up system, allowing the figure to gently rotate while playing its melody.
Pieces such as this were produced during Japan’s post-war export boom, where musical novelty dolls became highly popular across Western markets.
A decorative and nostalgic example of mid-century Japanese novelty craftsmanship, combining music, movement, and character design.
