A striking early 20th century bronze sculpture depicting a pair of hunting dogs in pursuit, modelled after the celebrated French animalier sculptor Paul-Édouard Delabrièrre (1829–1912).

Captured with remarkable movement and realism, one hound tracks the scent with its nose to the ground while the second raises its head in alert anticipation.

The sculpture displays the strong anatomical modelling and expressive character associated with the French animalier tradition.

Fine detailing can be seen throughout the musculature, coats, ears and facial expressions, all set upon a naturalistic oval base.

Animalier bronzes became highly sought after during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, admired for their lifelike representation of sporting, rural and wildlife subjects.

This example makes an impressive decorative piece for a study, library, country house interior or collection of sporting antiques.
