This haunting figure, seated atop a stylised gnarled root base, appears to emerge from a swirling natural form, holding what may be a bowl or symbolic vessel in one hand and raising the other to his ear in a listening gesture.

The emaciated body, exaggerated facial expression, and heavily textured bronze surface reflect Daoist themes of asceticism, spiritual transcendence, and harmony with nature.
