A beautifully cast antique French bronze devotional icon, featuring the Madonna and Child in high relief, housed within an ornate Gothic Revival-style triptych frame.
This freestanding desk shrine is both a symbol of personal devotion and a masterclass in 19th to early 20th century ecclesiastical craftsmanship.
The central panel reveals a serene depiction of the Virgin Mary tenderly cradling the Christ Child, framed by delicately arched architectural detailing. The hinged doors, adorned with raised fleur-de-lis and cross motifs, can be closed to conceal the image, creating a sacred moment of unveiling.
The reverse is equally decorative, with lush scrolling foliage and Christian symbols, including the sacred monograms “IHS” and “NJ”.
Finished with a prominent cross finial and raised on a moulded base, this devotional object would have originally adorned a private altar or writing desk. A rare and refined piece of religious art.
