Description

An authentic coypu skull presented as a natural history osteological specimen.

The skull displays the characteristic robust cranium and prominently developed orange-pigmented incisors typical of the species, an adaptation associated with continuous growth and a herbivorous diet.

The elongated rostrum, pronounced zygomatic arches, and clear dental structure reflect the coypu’s classification within large semi-aquatic rodents native to South America and later introduced to Europe.

Coypu skulls are of particular interest within comparative anatomy and zoological collections due to the species’ distinctive dentition and ecological history.

Introduced to Britain in the early 20th century for fur farming, the coypu later became an invasive species, making specimens such as this relevant to studies of environmental history as well as mammalian osteology.

This skull is suitable for display within natural history collections, educational settings, or cabinet-of-curiosities–style interiors, where the form and structure of the bone can be clearly appreciated.

Care instructions
For indoor display only. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive humidity. Dust lightly with a soft, dry brush and avoid handling the bone directly to preserve the surface.
