An exceptional example of Austrian humour and craftsmanship, this delightful cold painted bronze sculpture depicts a lively little mouse perched atop a half-eaten biscuit. Cast in exquisite detail and hand-painted in realistic tones, this piece is a rare original from the renowned Franz Bergmann foundry of Vienna.
Stamped to the underside with model number 7238, the Geschützt mark (indicating design protection), and the iconic ‘B’ in urn’ Bergmann monogram, this sculpture was produced during the late 19th to early 20th century. These novelty bronzes were part of a wave of playful and highly collectible figural studies popular in the Viennese bronze tradition.
The piece features a wonderful balance of naturalism and charm—from the biscuit’s realistic texture and markings to the mouse’s poised stance and characterful expression. A true collector’s item, perfect for lovers of antique bronzes, animalier art, and Austrian decorative whimsy
