A striking example of late 19th to early 20th century religious folk art, this hand-carved Tramp Art crucifix is an extraordinary piece that beautifully blends devotion with craftsmanship.

Featuring a gilt figure of Christ mounted on a meticulously chip-carved wooden cross, the piece is adorned with traditional Passion Instruments, including five angled spears radiating from the base.

At the top of the cross sits a hand-forged INRI plaque above a radiant halo motif.

The lower section is constructed as a box base with diamond chip-carved paneling and a hidden drawer, ideal for storing rosary beads or other small devotional items.

The Crucifix is entirely handmade using layered and notched wood strips, showcasing the characteristic Tramp Art technique—a method often employed by itinerant craftspeople and woodworkers in the late 1800s using reclaimed materials such as cigar boxes.
