An extraordinary and rare piece of military memorabilia, this genuine turtle shell has been hand-painted and inscribed in honour of Andrew D. Lorimer’s service at RAF Masirah between 19th January 1976 and 31st March 1977.
Beautifully decorated with floral motifs and vivid white lettering, the shell includes the phrase “Last of the Few,” a poignant tribute associated with the RAF and the legacy of the Second World War.
RAF Masirah was a remote Royal Air Force base located on Masirah Island, off the coast of Oman, operational during the Cold War era.
This commemorative piece not only celebrates an individual’s service but also offers a rare physical reminder of British military presence in the Gulf during the 20th century.
Crafted from a real turtle shell, this item is both visually striking and historically significant. The front bears a detailed painted inscription while the reverse reveals the natural interior of the shell, untreated and intact.
