An impressive, oversized Japanese Daruma doll crafted from traditional papier-mâché and boldly hand-painted in vivid red, black, gold, and white.
This striking figure embodies centuries of Japanese cultural symbolism and spiritual perseverance.
Daruma dolls are modeled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Zen Buddhism.
Traditionally, they are used as a talisman of good fortune and personal goal-setting: the owner paints in one eye while setting a goal and fills in the other once it’s achieved.
This particular Daruma is monumental in size and richly decorated with bold calligraphy and thickly layered pigment, giving it commanding presence.
The large kanji characters on the front read 必勝 (hisshō), meaning “certain victory,” making this ideal for motivating spaces, martial arts dojos, or collectors of spiritual and folk art.
A powerful and rare interior piece with an uplifting story behind its form.
