Description
An original LNER railway issue pocket watch, engraved L.N.E.R. 7309 to the reverse and believed to have been issued for railway service use.
Manufactured by Selex and Swiss made, this traditional open-face pocket watch features a clean white enamel-style dial with bold Roman numerals, elegant blued steel hands and a subsidiary seconds dial positioned at six o’clock.
The watch is housed within a robust nickel or white metal case, designed for the rigours of daily railway service.
Pocket watches issued to railway companies played a vital role in maintaining accurate timekeeping across Britain’s rail network, where precision and reliability were essential for the safe operation of trains.
Original railway-marked examples remain highly sought after by collectors of railwayana, transport history and vintage horology.
The engraved LNER issue number adds an extra layer of historical interest, connecting the watch to the era of the London and North Eastern Railway, one of Britain’s famed pre-nationalisation railway companies.
A fascinating collector’s piece combining railway history, Swiss watchmaking and classic early twentieth-century design.
