Description
Height: 23cm
Width: 13cm
An authentic human scapula presented as an anatomical specimen, mounted upright on a slender metal support and set into an ebonised circular base.
The scapula displays the characteristic flattened, triangular form of the shoulder blade, with clearly defined anatomical features including the body, spine, and acromial region.
The natural surface texture and subtle porosity of the bone reflect its organic origin and suitability for study or display.
Mounted skeletal elements of this type were historically used in medical education, anatomical teaching, and private study collections from the 19th century onward.
Such specimens were often prepared for clarity of form rather than ornament, allowing the structure and proportion of the bone to be easily examined. Today, they are collected as examples of medical history, osteology, and cabinet-of-curiosities material.
This piece is intended as a display specimen rather than a teaching aid and sits comfortably within collections focused on anatomy, medical history, or memento mori–inspired interiors.
Care instructions
For indoor display only. Keep away from direct sunlight, heat, and excessive humidity. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush. Avoid handling the bone directly to preserve the surface.
