Description

Height: 25cm

Width: 10cm

An authentic Victorian apothecary bottle complete with its original ground glass stopper, surviving period label and retained contents.

The bottle is labelled “Sulphur” and still contains the original powdered sulphur, creating a highly evocative example of 19th century pharmaceutical and chemist’s equipment.

Sulphur was widely used throughout the Victorian period in medicinal preparations, dermatological treatments, veterinary remedies and a variety of household applications.

Apothecaries, chemists and dispensing pharmacists commonly stored ingredients such as this in clearly labelled glass bottles for daily use within the dispensary.

The bottle features a classic cylindrical form with broad shoulder, substantial ground glass stopper and original paper label.

The retained contents and untouched appearance offer a genuine snapshot of Victorian pharmacy practice and make this an excellent display piece for collectors of medical antiques, scientific instruments and cabinets of curiosities.
