A beautiful vintage sterling silver butterfly-shaped brooch featuring genuine butterfly wing panels beneath clear protective covers.

The wings display the spectacular iridescent electric blue and turquoise colouring associated with Morpho butterfly wing jewellery, changing in intensity as the piece catches the light.

The silver setting is finely modelled as a butterfly, complete with a detailed body, antennae and decorative edging around each wing. The reverse is fitted with a traditional pin and safety clasp and is marked SILVER.

Butterfly wing jewellery became particularly fashionable during the Art Deco period and remained popular into the mid-20th century, with the natural iridescence of the wings making each surviving piece unique.
