A charming and highly collectible Victorian German bisque head sailor doll manufactured by Koenig & Wernicke of Germany, impressed to the reverse of the head with the mould number 99/17 and factory mark.
This characterful doll retains its striking original glass sleep eyes, open mouth with visible teeth, moulded and painted facial features, and a period sailor outfit complete with cap bearing the name HMS Ashanti.
The detailed naval uniform features gilt anchor buttons and traditional sailor styling, reflecting the popularity of maritime-themed dolls during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods.
Koenig & Wernicke dolls are increasingly sought after by collectors for their quality bisque heads, expressive faces, and historical significance within the German doll-making industry.
This example displays the large blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and distinctive character that made these dolls so desirable.
An excellent addition to a doll collection, maritime collection, nursery display, antique toy collection, or period interior.
