Description
Height: 35cm
An unusual and deeply evocative 19th century German religious wax figure model, beautifully dressed in period textiles and lace with hand-applied decorative detailing throughout.
The figure retains its original wax head and hands, displaying the wonderfully aged and slightly haunting character so often associated with devotional folk art of this period.
The model is richly adorned with patterned ecclesiastical-style fabrics, delicate lace trim, and miniature floral embellishments, while holding a smaller companion figure to one side.
Time-worn ageing to the textiles and wax surface only enhances the authenticity and atmosphere of the piece.
Likely once used within a domestic shrine, religious display, or monastery setting, this rare survivor now makes a compelling addition to collections of religious antiques, gothic décor, cabinets of curiosities, or folk devotional art.
