Description

A superb large Cleoniceras ammonite fossil from Madagascar, measuring approximately 15.5cm and weighing 770g.

The specimen has been polished to reveal the ammonite’s exceptionally intricate suture patterns, creating dense fern and leaf-like markings across almost the entire surface.

These highly decorative patterns are the preserved boundaries of the ammonite’s internal shell chambers and make each specimen completely unique.

Predominantly dark brown, black and cream in colour, the ammonite also retains a small area of attractive natural iridescence around the inner whorl. A cut section reveals further fossil and shell detail within the matrix.

Cleoniceras ammonites date from the Cretaceous period, making this a striking prehistoric specimen for a fossil collection, natural history display or cabinet of curiosities.
