An attractive antique oak desk tidy and writing stand, likely dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian period.

The fitted desktop stand features a hinged upper compartment with three labelled sections for “Copying”, “Red” and “Black”, originally intended for different writing inks.

Two metal-lined inkwell recesses remain in place, together with the central fitting, while the front incorporates a long moulded glass pen tray.

The oak has developed a warm, well-used patina with ink staining, surface marks and wear from many years of use, giving the piece plenty of genuine period character.

The shaped raised back and substantial moulded base complete the traditional office or writing-desk design.

A great piece of antique office equipment and an increasingly decorative accessory for a study, library or period desk.
