An antique tramp art crucifix, richly constructed from layered hand-carved wood and mounted with a metal corpus of Christ.
The cross is formed in the traditional tramp art technique, with chip-carved geometric edging and stacked elements creating depth and texture throughout.
The central figure of Christ is cast in metal, affixed to a fabric-backed wooden panel, with additional symbolic detailing including a skull and crossbones motif at the base—representing Golgotha.
The upper section retains a small metal plaque, and the entire piece is elevated on a stepped, carved base, giving it a strong architectural presence.
The reverse shows hand-worked construction and period markings, reinforcing its authenticity as a piece of folk art craftsmanship.
Tramp art objects were typically made using simple tools and available materials, resulting in highly individual decorative works.
A striking devotional object and an excellent example of antique folk art, ideal for collectors of religious artefacts, tramp art, or rustic handcrafted pieces.
