Description
An authentic CEAG inspection lamp bearing a Westoe Collieries plaque dated 1991.
Constructed from brass, copper and steel with a hardwood carrying handle, this industrial mining lamp represents the final era of Britain’s deep coal mining industry.
CEAG inspection lamps were used by colliery officials, engineers and mine inspectors for underground examinations and safety checks.
This example retains its original Westoe Collieries identification plate, linking it to the historic Westoe Colliery in South Shields, one of the last operating collieries in North East England before its closure in 1993.
The lamp displays a superb aged patina across the brass and copper body, giving it the authentic character sought after by collectors of mining memorabilia and industrial antiques.
A highly decorative and historically significant piece of British coal mining heritage.
