A striking Mdina end of day art glass sculpture, hand crafted in Malta and showcasing the bold colour combinations and flowing organic forms that have made Mdina glass internationally collectible.
Formed from thick clear glass with vibrant swirls of turquoise, ruby red, amber, white and smoky tones, the piece displays the distinctive “end of day” technique where remaining coloured glass from the day’s production is combined to create unique one-off designs.
No two examples are ever exactly alike, making each sculpture entirely individual.
The freeform base features dramatic ribbon-like folds and scrolls of coloured glass which rise to support a large circular crystal element, creating an eye-catching sculptural silhouette from every angle.
The layered colours and internal movement become increasingly dramatic as light passes through the glass.
Founded in Malta during the late 1960s, Mdina became renowned for producing artistic studio glass with a distinctive Mediterranean character.
End of day pieces remain especially desirable amongst collectors due to their uniqueness and often more experimental forms.
