An authentic Murano art glass face vase, hand-crafted in the Venetian tradition and inspired by the abstract portraiture associated with Pablo Picasso.

Unlike later reproductions, this example displays the vibrant colours, applied features and artistic freeform styling that made Murano’s face vases highly collectible during the second half of the twentieth century.

The vase is formed from thick blown glass with a striking multicoloured surface incorporating shades of cobalt blue, crimson, amber, yellow and black.

Applied glass details create a stylised facial profile with prominent nose, lips, eye, ear and sculptural coiffure, transforming the vessel into a piece of modern art.

Picasso-inspired faces became one of Murano’s most recognisable artistic themes, blending Cubist influences with traditional Venetian glassmaking techniques.

The result is a functional vase that also serves as a sculptural statement piece, equally at home in a Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern or contemporary interior.
