A charming mid-20th century Japanese tinplate bird toy by Yone, one of Japan’s best-known post-war toy manufacturers.

Finished in vibrant lithographed colours with detailed feather decoration in red, green, yellow and blue, the toy captures the whimsical style that made Japanese tinplate toys so popular during the 1950s and 1960s.

The pressed metal body is fitted with broad printed wings and a clockwork mechanism which animates the toy when wound.

Yone produced a wide range of mechanical animals, birds and novelty toys for export markets worldwide, and their colourful designs remain highly sought after by collectors today.
