Description
blade: 9cm
A traditional Scottish sgian dubh featuring a polished steel blade, carved black handle and fitted leather sheath.
The sgian dubh is the iconic Highland dress knife traditionally worn tucked into the top of a kilt hose, with only the handle visible.
This example displays the classic form, with a decorative basket-weave carved handle and an applied Celtic-style emblem to the pommel area, giving it strong Scottish character and ceremonial appeal.
The blade is of polished steel with a central fuller and decorative notched detailing to the spine, while the accompanying black leather sheath completes the traditional presentation.
Originally intended as a small utility knife, the sgian dubh has become one of the most recognisable symbols of Scottish dress and heritage.
Examples such as this remain popular with collectors of Scottish memorabilia, Highland dress accessories, militaria and Celtic decorative arts.
