Description

A charming mid-20th century GKN Köhler tinplate clockwork dog, made in Germany and marked “Made in U.S.-Zone Germany” to the underside.

The lithographed tinplate dog is modelled sitting upright on its hind legs with articulated front paws, painted collar and wonderfully detailed brown and cream coat. The original clockwork key is also present.

These mechanical Köhler dogs were designed as novelty performing toys, with the dog operating through its clockwork mechanism.

This example is missing the original stick/baton accessory, but retains plenty of character and displays beautifully.
