A spectacular 1980s Attwood & Sawyer coiled snake brooch, an exceptionally striking piece of British designer costume jewellery.

The serpent is dramatically curled upon itself, its body formed from sweeping coils decorated with glossy jet-black enamel and densely set clear sparkling crystals.

The raised head emerges from the centre of the coils before the long enamelled tail sweeps downwards, giving the brooch a wonderful sense of movement and dimension.

This design dates to the 1980s and matching Attwood & Sawyer examples are documented in 22ct gold-plated metal with enamel and crystal decoration.

The contrast between the black enamel and brilliant clear stones gives it an almost fine-jewellery appearance.

Attwood & Sawyer was established in Britain in 1956 and became renowned for producing exceptionally glamorous costume jewellery, including pieces inspired by important historic jewels.

Their elaborate animal and figural designs are particularly collectable today.
