Description
Height: 26cm
Width: 13cm
A striking vintage West German pottery vase produced by Carstens Tönnieshof, bearing the impressed model number 4925 to the base.
This bold mid-century design showcases the dramatic Fat Lava aesthetic for which Carstens became internationally renowned during the 1960s and 1970s.
The vase features a richly textured turquoise ground with dark volcanic glaze effects and a raised geometric band highlighted in bronze, olive and black tones.
The heavily layered glazes create exceptional depth and movement across the surface, emphasising the sculptural quality of the piece.
The form combines a broad shouldered body with a gently tapering neck and vertically ribbed lower section, creating a strong architectural silhouette characteristic of German modernist ceramic design.
Carstens pottery remains highly sought after by collectors of West German ceramics, with its experimental glazing techniques and distinctive forms representing some of the finest examples of post-war European art pottery.
This vase is an excellent display piece whether incorporated into a mid-century interior or a dedicated Fat Lava collection.
